    The much bigger problem is that there were glaringly obvious changes but weren't documented in the patch notes, such as the universal damage buffs to Chinese 125mm HEAT. It's one thing to have no communication before the changes, it's another to not even acknowledge the changes publicly even when being shown what they did in no uncertainty.

    Why bother providing patch notes when people have to keep asking about undocumented changes? Just make every single update a mystery and let people find the changes themselves at this point.

    One game. It took SS one single game in the M1 Abrams to get annoyed and understand why people have been complaining about the turbine sounds for literal months.

    No offense to SS, but this brings up the question of whether player feedback is taken seriously at all.

    Big big list of stuff that was said during the stream, sorted by categories. Interesting stuff in bold.

     

    Comments on current events:

    • Parts for camos and skins may or may not return next Raid, depending on how the current Raid performs.
    • Realistic Battles is very unpopular due to a lack of incentive to play it. There were barely any players last time and there are major issues with foliage being completely removable. It only came back now because the RU community requested it, due to the holiday and current lockdown.
    • SS isn't sure about continuing the Storyline Campaign with ep2, due to all the issues and negative feedback that cropped up in the previous few weeks. If the current results are good and show promise, maybe he will continue.
    • The playerbase is stable, there are new players coming in all the time.
    • The problem with the 0.37 update is that it was a complete surprise and drastically changed the paradigms of the game (eg. Leopard 1 having 1000mm armour). Player feedback was also not consulted prior to the update. Developers focus on statistics over player feedback regarding 0.37 and the low tier rebalancing.
    • High tier bots in PvP is an operator decision.
    • The results for the Storyline Campaign SLEP mission will be announced on Monday.
    • The Storyline Campaign so far is a proof of concept. SS expects 800-1000 winners at the end, anything less he considers to be a failure.

    0.38 stuff:

    • 0.38 will come at the end of November.
    • 0.38 is called Exodus.
    • There is a new big PvP map being planned for 0.38.
    • New spec ops coming in 0.38, it will be called Burning Fields.
    • The new spec ops will only have English dubbing for cost reasons.
    • Huge autocannon overhaul coming in 0.38. They will all get overheating mechanics similar to the GAU.
    • Autocannons will have "belts" with cooldown/reload times.
    • The 30mm RARDEN and bagelpanzer 57mm will be exceptions to the overheating mechanic.
    • The contracts system is being reviewed, there may be some changes.

    BP stuff:

    • T-72M4CZ is confirmed to be in the next Battle Path.
    • 2S38 Derivatsiya will be a tier 8 AFV in the next BP. It will have a 57mm autocannon and guided PELE ammo, 200rnd/min.
    • The tier 10 reward for the next BP will not be an MBT.

    Upcoming stuff:

    • There will be at least 1 fake vehicle coming in 2022, and another that is sort of fake. SS is not happy with it.
    • There will be a Czech camo coming.
    • There are new German vehicles in development, coming in 2022.
    • The Leopard camouflage is one of the gifts coming for Christmas.
    • December will feature the Whispers of Frost event, Wars of the Past Battle Path, Winter Wonderland by My.com.
    • Black Friday will feature Phoenix skins.

    General development:

    • Most premium vehicles not belong to specific dealers is a technical limitation. If vehicles belong to a dealer, they will have to appear on the in-game tech tree and thus become purchasable with gold.
    • The "not enough heavy vehicles" bug in full platoons keep coming back, SS will look into it.
    • Developers claim they are running out of introducible tier 9 and 10 vehicles. SS disagrees.
    • There will be no new progression vehicles coming in 2022. They were considered but rejected by developers and higher ups. Overprogression vehicles are being considered instead.
    • There may be around 30 developers currently working on the game. SS don't know for sure.
    • Current PvP maps won't be overhauled, it would be a waste of resources.
    • SS once proposed finishing the T-80 branch by introducing unlock mechanics via contract missions. That didn't go anywhere.
    • No new heroic missions coming, there are very very few players who even play heroics.
    • MBTs have been dominating since the rebalance. There will be some PvP changes coming to address this.
    • There are no jungle maps in development, as far as SS knows.
    • No further CATTB buffs planned yet.
    • There are tons of old avatars and decals, but SS don't see any value in reselling or giving them out again.
    • No plans for adding more cosmetic customizations.
    • Pink base paint won't be coming, because of Russia.
    • No plans to add more vehicles to the AI pool, due to some of the vehicles being hard to balance (eg. Kornet).
    • Annoying contract missions are intended.
    • Missions don't have a huge effect on how players play, they would rather just skip them.
    • Camo nets are the most expensive type of skins to produce, other than fancy moving stuff like the Kraken skin.
    • No global map for battalion matches. There were originally plans for that, but there aren't enough active battalions to make it work.
    • Skins should not change the performance of vehicles, this is specifically prohibited.
    • There was an idea to have all events, Battle Paths and Raids to synergize within the AW universe narrative, but that idea ended when the developers decided to use the apocalypse setting. The Storyline Campaign may become a platform for that synergy.
    • No plans to nerf HEAT-MP.
    • PvP focus was a goal for the game to attract streamers and compete with WoT, but that did not work and there's no point in trying it again.
    • More premium vehicles purchasable with gold won't happen. Too many players are sitting on too much gold already so it won't be profitable.
    • The gold inflation is a problem from past decisions being too generous.
    • Battle Paths are more or less a gold sink already by design.
    • Ophelia has been a problem since day 1 because she was introduced in fairly expensive bundles. By the time her brokenness became apparent it was too late to drastically rebalance her.
    • Object 787 is not planned for 2022, but the model exists.
    • There was a recent idea for a credit and gold sink, using upgradeable and customizable modules for vehicles similar to WoT. Nothing came out of that idea.
    • Flags was a mistake.
    • No plans to bring back the autocannon Wiesel.
    • There's no point in developing regular and competitive PvP any further. It has been tried and failed already, and it won't be coming.
    • Tiger Claw isn't completely removed and can be played on the Chinese server, but it's not worth the resources to fix it.
    • No plans for the Pandur.
    • The base mechanic failed because it lacked meaning in the game. There was an idea in 2018 to mirror the Stronghold mechanic in WoT, but developing it was difficult and expensive, and it's flat out annoying to have forced battles at 3am.
    • No plans for drivable rocket artillery.
    • AI infantry has been a problem even in spec ops.
    • The try/trade/gift system is completely finalized.
    • Lootdog has legal issues outside of the existing available countries, it is unlikely to expand to other countries.
    • Adding new commanders is expensive, there are no plans to add new commanders in 2022 except for Samuel Thorpe.
    • The current lead model artist is a lady.
    • Magnus got new voice-overs because the old voice actors were unavailable.

    SS things:

    • SS is a sucker for historical camouflages.
    • SS finally understands why people complain about turbine sound effects, after playing the M1 Abrams himself and hating it.
    • SS is a fan of the T-72B model, one of his favourites.

    What is the Raid event?

    The Raid is a 49-day-long event, in which you, as a Raider, conquer certain territory by moving along the lines representing roads and other paths and forming a grid. Each grid intersection has a point that is either a mission that you must complete (Mission Points), or a reward that you may claim (Reward Points). Completing the mission or claiming the reward unlocks another portion of the grid. The main prizes await you in each of the territory map’s corners. Players who complete all missions and claim all rewards receive a special reward.

    Once the map is available to you (either by purchasing access or completing 10 Contract Missions), start from the center by clicking on one of the dots that show the initial direction of your advance.

    What rewards are there available?

    Standard Reward Points that can be found around the grid will reward you with various items such as Reputation, Boosters or even Battle Coins for an upcoming Battle Path. The top rewards that are waiting for you in each of the map’s corners are the four epic skins listed above.

    Please note that these skins do not come with the vehicles themselves. The skins also work with multiple vehicle upgrades where applicable. Finally, completing all missions and claiming all rewards will unlock the top reward, the Mist camouflage.

    What missions appear in Raid?

    There are four categories of missions available:

    • PvP missions (which require you to play either Random Battles or Global Operations)
    • PvE missions (which require you to play either standard PvE or Special Operations)
    • General missions (which can be completed in both PvP and PvE)
    • Elite missions (which require you to complete a very difficult objective in order to access major rewards such as the abovementioned skins)

    General, PvE and PvP missions have randomized requirements that may include the use of vehicles from specific dealers, or playing specific Tiers. Elite missions are not randomized.

    Can I obtain the rewards only by playing my favorite mode? For example, I do not want to play PvP or PvE.

    Yes.

    Some missions require me to do things I do not understand, like Kill or Eliminate. Can you explain?

    There are several goal categories included:

    • Kill/Destroy
    • Assist
    • Eliminate
    • Performance requirement

    Kill (or Destroy, which is the same thing) simply means you have to be the player who deals the finishing blow to the target.

    Assist means that you have to be the player who deals the most damage to the target (save for killing it). There is no threshold – if player A deals 40 percent of all the damage to the target, player B deals 30 percent of all the damage done to the target and then player C deals the remaining 30 percent and kills it, player A will get the “assist”. Kill or assist requirements often come together, so you can either achieve a kill, or an assist and both will count towards your mission progress.

    Eliminate means that you have to destroy the target AND, at the same time, be the player dealing the most damage to it. What that means is that, in the case described above, no player would achieve elimination. However, if two players dealt 30 percent of damage each and then another player dealt 40 percent of damage and killed the target, that player would achieve elimination.

    Performance is the percentage of hits that hit your target while dealing main hitpoint damage. In other words, a mission with 80 percent performance requirement requires 80 percent of all your shells to hit your target and deal hitpoint damage to it. What this means is that:

    • Shells that hit and deal damage (even without penetration, like HE explosions) will count
    • Shells that don’t hit but still deal damage (HE splash) don’t count
    • Shells that hit but don’t deal damage (non-penetrations, ricochets) don’t count
    • Shells that hit but only deal module damage (hitting enemy ERA, tracks or gun) don’t count

    Is it possible to change missions if I do not like the conditions?

    Yes. You may obtain a Reroll Token from a Reward Point. Using it changes the conditions of a single mission. Please note that PvP missions cannot be rerolled into PvE ones and vice versa, the main mode requirement will always remain the same. Elite missions cannot be rerolled. Reroll Tokens can also be purchased for Gold.

    Is it possible to skip missions?

    Yes. You may obtain a Raider Token from a Reward Point. Using it will instantly complete the mission you have selected. However, please note that these items are rare and you best save yours for a rainy day. Please also note that completing Elite missions this way will cost you five Raider Tokens. Raider Tokens can also be purchased for Gold.

    What are the time limits on this event?

    The Raid missions have no timers and, if you wish, the entire event can be completed even on Day 1. The only timer that is present is the 49-day deadline that starts at the event’s launch and is therefore the same for everybody. You can see the time left to complete the event in the upper right corner of the Raid window.

    By the way, you don't get the full skins or camos. You get PARTS for the skins and camos.

    One of the hottest topics of the past days and weeks has been the Tier 1 to 6 rebalance and today, we’d like to tell you more about as well as explain ourselves regarding some of our actions and design choices.

     

    The Tier 1 to 6 set of changes follows the same rules and subscribes to the same philosophy as the previous high-Tier adjustments. There were issues in the earlier game balance that we specifically wanted to address. These issues included:

    • Power creep between Tiers
    • Expected versus real armor behavior (also known as “the indicator was green, why didn’t I penetrate the armor?”)

    The first issue seems obvious enough, but the second one might not be. The armor models of Armored Warfare were – or are – quite complex. This led to a large number of situations where the penetration indicator, which works like a beam, would target one small polygon where penetration was possible, but the actual shell would hit somewhere else – a different polygon with a different thickness that would bounce the shell off. In other words, you saw the green reticle, fired and the shell would bounce off. To address this issue, we simplified the armor model significantly – this is the “weird armor” you’ve been seeing in the Armor Inspector, but we’ll say more about that below.

    We’ve been working on this concept for a very long time and somewhere along the line, we realized there were compromises we’d have to make.

    One of the most important compromises was that of “realism”. There are other tank games on the market that either claim realism, or have at least started that way. From them arose a certain set of paradigms that apply to you as our community even though there’s no particular reason to do so save for legacy perceptions. A few examples include:

    • Poor armor of the Sherman
    • Leopard 1 should have very thin armor in absolute numbers
    • T-55 has 100mm thick frontal plate

    And so on. We are aware that breaking such informal “rules” feels “wrong” to the community, even though, from our perspective, there’s no particular reason to adhere to them. We broke them already on higher Tiers, although there it wasn’t that visible – nobody knows how effective the depleted Uranium kit of an Abrams is (and for the record, please don’t leak any military documents to tell us).

    Our concern is that of gameplay – the game has to be fun first and foremost, and any notions of realism come as a bonus. After all – realism? One of our most successful skins makes your tank look like half-ghost and half-octopus. In other words, we decided to ditch pretty much all realistic armor values and adhere to what we feel is the best for gameplay.

    That’s not to say this all went without problems. There are issues that we still definitely need to address (the total firepower dominance of the M51 being a good example) but overall, the update went roughly as intended. However, ever since the launch, we’ve been bombarded with questions and today, we’d like to answer the most popular ones.

    Why do all MBTs have the same armor layout?

    This is a tough one because we knew this wouldn’t be popular with a certain group of players. The basic idea was this – statistically, typical gameplay against MBTs were two vehicles facing each other while standing and moving their guns left and right, up and down, searching for a “green” weakspot. Whoever finds one first, typically wins.

    Our goal was to shift the gameplay focus from weakspot searching to:

    • Positioning on the battlefield
    • Proper shell type selection

    To do that, we had to come up with an overall armor concept that would fit the following requirements:

    • MBTs shouldn’t have easily targetable frontal weakspots at mid-to-long ranges in order to be able to push forward without being immediately destroyed by long-range fire
    • MBTs shouldn’t have frontal weakspots their players can’t compensate for by playing, which is why we turned the lower frontal plates into weakspots since they can be hidden behind obstacles or by angling your tank
    • MBTs should be able to fight each other at any distance and with any standard Tier difference (that is, 2 Tiers), which is why the lowest part of the lower frontal plate is typically vulnerable to any tank gun of any Tier the MBT can face in battle under normal circumstances
    • MBT side armor should be vulnerable to medium and large caliber guns at any distance, but should be resistant to autocannons (we are currently reviewing the autocannons and preparing some changes, so take this point with a grain of salt) – either way, the idea here was to make fire support or sniper-style vehicles effective against MBTs when positioned right and to make flanking a viable tactic

    Furthermore, we wanted to make all standard shell types viable in various situations. In the new meta gameplay, shell switching is important, which is why we gave the ability to switch shell types to pretty much all vehicles. As for the specific shell types:

    • APFSDS (Kinetic): Universal shell type effective at shorter ranges in any battle
    • HESH: Specific shell type that doesn’t deal as much damage, but is effective against sharply angled armor, including upper frontal plate, and can therefore penetrate areas kinetic shells cannot
    • HEAT (Shaped Charge): Deals roughly 30 percent more damage across the board than kinetic shells but can rarely penetrate frontal armor, best used against MBT side armor or light targets
    • HEAT-MP: Deals roughly 10 percent less damage than standard HEAT, but can deal minimum damage upon non-penetration, making it not only effective against side armor and light vehicles, but also against stationary MBTs in defensive positions that would normally be invulnerable to your fire
    • HE (High Explosive): Deals much, much more damage than standard kinetic shells but has the lowest penetration values of all shell types. Usable against very light targets, vehicle rear areas, but also to flush out MBTs in defensive positions thanks to its ability to deal damage upon non-penetration

    We also wanted to underline the differences between various classes. The result is the model you can see in the game right now. Yes, all MBTs have their lower frontal plates turned into weakspots, which is not historically accurate, but supports our vision of intended gameplay.

    Why does the Leopard 1 MBT have so thick armor (and why are there other strange armor layouts)?

    Yes, we do know the Chieftain armor doesn’t look that way on the inside, or that it’s missing its pike nose. We also know the Leopard armor looks differently. All these changes were designed to make armor performance more predictable and for all MBTs to adhere to the gameplay changes described above. We tried to preserve at least the general MBT styles – as such, the Leopard is the least armored of other MBTs of its Tier.

    With that being said, there are some armor layouts that perhaps do not have the intended values. We are looking into them right now.

    What about the autocannons?

    As also stated above, we wanted to protect the MBT class from long-range autocannon fire. Unfortunately, in the process, we discovered that autocannon vehicles can no longer engage MBTs effectively, even at close distances. We are working at the moment to fix this.

    Why does the same shell have a higher penetration or damage on Tier 1-6 than it does on Tier 7-10?

    In short, this is a bug. It came to be since the Tier 7 to 10 rebalance process was for all intents and purposes separate from the Tier 1 to 6 one, which, as you know, came later. During the latter’s implementation, there was some friction between the two and we will fix any such inconsistencies as soon as possible.

    Why did the Type 62 become an MBT?

    Because we needed one more MBT on Tier 1 and of all the existing vehicles, the Type 62 LT was the best candidate since it kind of is a mini-Type 59. Now, you might be asking, why didn’t we just replace it with the Type 59? The answer is, that would create more issues than it was worth. We’d have to either completely replace the Type 62 (removing it from the game), or we’d be left with another legacy vehicle (like the PT-76) that serves no practical purpose, nobody would play it (as nobody plays the PT-76) but would represent more “dead weight” in a time when the costs of game development are at an all-time high.

    On the other hand, we do recognize that the Type 62 has a completely wrong model anyway, but we need that MBT on Tier 1 for player acquisition reasons, so would you rather have us replace it with the Type 59? Let us know.

    The same really goes for Rooikat 76. It’s a fire support vehicle, which typically translates into a Tank Destroyer in our game. That’s why we changed its class.

    As for the rest...

    Let’s get real. We do hear your feedback and recognize some things didn’t go as intended. There are bugs that we are still working on – 120mm AMX-40 low damage, insane damage output of the M-51, some Tier 1-6 tanks having more armor than a Tier 10 MBT. We’ll get them fixed in the near future.

    And yes, this article should have been rolled out earlier. For all that, we apologize. Right now, the best thing we can do is pay attention to the lessons we’ve learned in the future features we are working on right now, such as the autocannon overhaul or in making armor more diverse.

    Let me get myself sufficiently intoxicated before I start breaking down this bullshit.

    Story result: The Perihelion forces failed to learn how to operate as a cohesive unit and it is unsure whether they ever will. While nobody was truly hurt, a vehicle got severely damaged and a number of men participating in the exercise left the outfit. David Murdoch will hear about this fiasco and will not be pleased.     Mission: Weekend Warrior

    • Result: Pyrrhic Victory

    • Rewards: 1 Platinum Loot Crate (Perihelion Sigil decal not issued due to the Pyrrhic Victory result)

    Story result: Despite getting into a serious firefight with a heavily armed convoy assumed to have carried drugs alongside the U.S. forces without breaking ranks, the Perihelion units involved in the operation took unexpected casualties as they were clearly not ready for an operation of such intensity. Still, the convoy was stopped (mostly thanks to the U.S. Army efforts) and some loot was salvaged from its remains. In this sense, it was a “victory” because the traffickers cannot realistically take on a fully armed corporate outfit with military support and their route was broken, but Perihelion cannot realistically afford such losses.

    These three missions ended with the following results:

    However, take heart, commanders. The Reinforcements mission is shaping up nicely (the results will be known only after October 31) so it seems the Perihelion troops will get their act together after all.

    The rest, as they say, is up to you. The two following missions coming on October 25 will not be that hard despite the negative difficulty modifier, but will require some thinking on your part. Your choices will determine the outcome of Episode 1 and, indeed, the entire Storyline Campaign.

    Long story short, we got fucked due to not enough participation. Hopefully we'll pick up the slack with the remaining two missions starting Oct 25.

    This mini project started as an attempt to create a Perihelion-themed camo for the Storyline Campaign. After being advised to "wait a bit" (hint hint) I decided to instead create an alternate variant of the Hades camo, along with a lighter-themed variant based on the Mount Elbrus camo as a companion piece.

    CATTB Improvements

    We are adding a Burlak-style Ready Rack to the vehicle – a special two-round Ready Rack where both rounds have their separate loading timers. Firing one round does not reset the Ready Rack timer for the second one. Additionally, the shell reload time was reduced from 15s to 14s.

    General Changes

    • Fixed an issue where Rashid Al-Atassi’s skills that were supposed to reduce the ATGM reload time were in fact increasing it
    • Fixed the Leopard 2 series gun barrel visual model issues
    • Tier 7 to Tier 10 Kevlar Spall Liner modules now grant a 400 hitpoint bonus instead of 300
    • B1 Draco: Improved this vehicle’s armor to match the rest of the Centauro series
    • Bradley FV: Improved the quality of this vehicle’s visual model, fixed some smaller issues
    • Expeditionary Tank: Fixed the flying smoke covers
    • Kampfpanzer 70: HE penetration reduced from 55mm to 50mm
    • M109: Stock engine hull traverse value now corresponds to reality (15.6 deg/s)
    • M1128 Stryker: Adjusted this vehicle’s gun depression so that the gun no longer clips the hull
    • M48 GAU-8: Fixed the turret ring armor model (it is now 200mm thick)
    • M60A2: HEAT penetration reduced from 735mm to 670mm, ATGM penetration reduced from 800mm to 750mm
    • M60A3: HEAT damage increased from 430 to 540, HEP damage increased from 310 to 370
    • MTLB S-8: Removed the damage bonus for rocket penetration
    • PL-01: Improved the quality of this vehicle’s visual model, fixed some smaller issues
    • T-90A: Fixed the incorrect rear armor by reducing it from 800mm to the intended value of 55mm
    • TAM 2IP: Fixed the laser effect appearance
    • TAM 2IP: Fixed an issue where Contract Mission completion wouldn’t work correctly for the additional progression module unlocking mechanism
    • Strv 2000: Fixed the gun’s model
    • Stryker ADATS: Fixed this vehicle’s bottom armor that was incorrectly 600mm thick, made some smaller armor adjustments in other areas
    • XM800T: LAW rockets now deal damage upon non-penetration
    • Fixed a number of other small visual vehicle model issues
    • Fixed a number of small armor and module positioning issues
    • Added the Halloween assets to the game

    The first round of mission results will be published between October 20 and October 25, 2021. Please note that for Episode 1, the number determining the mission results is 707.

    Are you on the list above?

    In that case, you have to complete 3 out of 6 Episode 1 missions with 4 missions being available now and 2 more coming on October 25, 2021. Read each mission requirement carefully, some are very difficult. Attempting and failing a difficult mission has serious consequences.

    If you aren't on the list above:

    In that case, in addition to the Episode 1 missions, you also have to play 42 standard PvE matches (both difficulties count, Special Operations do not count) using any of the Storyline Campaign vehicles (T-80U, T-90, T-72B3, T-90A, T-90MS, BMPT-72 and BMPT Mod.2017). This objective needs to be completed until the end of the Episode (November 7, 2021).

    Or, alternatively:

    • Purchasing access here
    • Discovering and completing a Secret Objective
    • Winning access in some contest (typically on Social Media)
