  1. Some more information about the exploit, courtesy of PanzerSofa: https://vk.com/wall-102237486_286104

Hail sophists! Today, the Western community contributor Silentstalker, also known in narrow circles as the "Czech electrician" in the official English-language discord server of the game, published news regarding the investigation into the case of players who used a certain bug in the system to cheat an unlimited amount of battle pass event currency. To understand the scale of the problem, in the second screenshot you can evaluate how effective this method of grinding BP coins was and remained unpunished for a long time. And it would be nice if these coins were enough to buy everything from the BP store and the players would calm down on this, but no - a number of the most enterprising ones came up with collecting blueprints for award cars from the event and after, cars obtained in this way in the amount of tens, and who had hundreds of pieces to sell for the Lootdog trading platform for quite earthly currencies on average at the price of similar tanks of the same level in the game market. In fact, there are many more interesting details to tell, but in short, the story with the "oligarchs of the battle pass" turned out to be a real detective story.

What this basically means is that RU players could do the exploit, gain millions of coins, use said coins to purchase premium vehicles from the coin shop, and sell them on Lootdog for real currency.

Comments also suggest autoclicker software is involved.

... some used the autoclicker, and this is third-party software, he could do the same combination for days, hence millions, 10 Ki millions...

    ........

In Armored Warfare, the Lynx Skyranger will be a Tier 10 Premium Armored Fighting Vehicle.

The basics of this vehicle are pretty straightforward – a solid health pool, adequate armor with NERA elements on the hull and an unmanned turret paired with solid mobility in the form of a 1140hp diesel engine – basically, you have the Hunter with less protection and hitpoints (the Lynx isn’t as big) and without its ATGMs.

What makes the vehicle truly stand apart are its special features and abilities. There are three of them in total.

Programmable Ammunition – the Lynx’s 30mm autocannon is not quite remarkable. We’ll balance its damage and penetration for its higher rate of fire but that’s about it. But it will feature a new ammunition type that is basically HE that explodes over the target. A similar mechanic is already used in the game, although not on an autocannon. In practical sense, it will be useful for removing rooftop ERA and for damaging lighter vehicles hidden behind obstacles and refusing to move, although using it against moving targets will be quite difficult

Starstreak Missiles – as you may have read in the historical section of this article, Skyranger’s missile launcher can be adapted to many missile systems. For our in-game version, we decided to use the British Starstreak as it appeared as an option in one of Rheinmetall’s catalogues. The interesting thing about this missile is that it can be fired at ground targets as well as the air ones and, more importantly, each warhead contains three pieces of sub-munitions in the form of metal darts. These are guided and fly extremely fast (1250 m/s) although their low weight (each weighs less than 1 kg) doesn’t allow them to deal that much damage or penetrate a lot of armor. In Armored Warfare, these will work as long-range ultra-fast but low-damage kinetic missiles (gaining penetration and damage with distance while ignoring APS and ERA), giving you the reach to deal with enemy targets at long distances

    scr9

Click the image to open a larger version

High Energy Laser – there are no drones in Armored Warfare (at least not the small ones this laser is intended against) but, fortunately for us, the laser can be repurposed to something else – blinding enemy sensors. The current version of the mechanic works as an active ability similar to the basic Designate Target one where the target needs to be “locked” for a few seconds, after which a debuff is applied. Only instead of increased damage taken, this ability will seriously reduce the target’s spotting range, effectively blinding it in the process. On the downside, much like with TAM’s Laser Lock ability, a laser beam will appear whenever the ability is in use, leading from your vehicle to the target. This laser is visible to both your team and the enemies – in other words, using this ability puts you at risk as the enemy will see where you are even without you getting spotted as usual

Interesting concepts, but the combo of mechanics just don't feel as exciting as they sound on paper.

    • Unless the KEM have very fast reloads, the lower damage than they already do on the Brosat will make them fairly useless even if they end up having high penetration. They would also serve no utility otherwise, as they are effectively just missiles with low damage and possibly low penetration too.
    • The blinding laser sounds novel on paper, until you realize the game already have mechanics for reducing enemy view ranges for years now. Shooting at commander sights and/or killing the commander on the target vehicle will blind them far more effectively than using the ability, not to mention its limited usefulness in PvP.
    • Programmable HE has been absolutely useless ever since they were introduced in the game. Nobody praises them, or complains about being used against them, or even uses them actively. This is a gimmick in the game that exists without much purpose or use.

In short, I see it as yet another dakka vehicle in a tier range already saturated by dakka vehicles. Maybe it will be better than it sounds, but I don't have high hopes.

  3. Confirming the ZTL will get a 125mm gun option.

    https://aw.my.games/en/news/general/developer-diary-ztl-11-upgrades

    Quote

The Rise of the Dragon Battle Path draws close and we have one last update for you regarding its vehicles.

The ZTL-11 Tank Destroyer is receiving a new weapon – a 125mm smoothbore cannon that will be firing Tier 10 Chinese shells (including the dreaded HEAT round).

The game reason is simple – our testing and your feedback showed that the firepower of the original gun just wasn’t cutting it on Tier 9 and, at the same time, reducing this vehicle’s Tier was not really an option. That is why we decided to upgrade its firepower with a slower-firing weapon, giving you a choice in the process (the 105mm gun will remain a better choice for PvE due to its higher damage per minute value).

But is this change realistic – as in, based on real-life? Could it work?

    Well, sort of.

After the need to upgrade ZTL’s firepower was discovered, we’ve held long discussions regarding the boundaries of realism. One argument was that since we have a completely fake tank in the Battle Path already, we might as well give the ZTL an MBT-class 125mm gun. This argument was also supported by the fact that realism ranked fairly low as a requirement in the recent Armored Warfare player poll.

The other argument emphasized previous community feedback regarding the topic of realism and claimed we shouldn’t recklessly abandon it. After all – if one tank can have an unrealistic gun, why wouldn’t players be able to demand unrealistic guns for other underperforming tanks? We don’t really want to open that can of worms, at least not fully.

In the end, a compromise was reached. First, we established that having a 125mm smoothbore gun on a wheeled chassis was possible. Here, a Russian project called Sprut-K served as an inspiration. The Sprut-K was a wheeled version of the Sprut-SD 125mm self-propelled gun. Instead of using a modified Object 934 chassis, it would use a modified wheeled BTR-90 chassis. In other words, using a 125mm gun on a wheeled chassis is possible providing some measures are taken.

That is why we based our 125mm gun on the Sprut one and fitted it with a massive muzzle brake of the Russian pattern used in the 1990s on Object 187 (which is something the Chinese could have received a license for). And that’s what will be available as an alternative to the 105mm gun.

Unfortunately, we haven’t finished the new gun’s model yet so for the time being, you might see it with the old one. This is, however, only temporary as we will fix the model in the near future.

The top-secret member of the Sofa administration (the most corrupt public in Aveha, by the way) continues to adore tanks with gas turbine engines with all the fibers of his soul. Therefore, another (I already got confused in them!) Visual mod for the T-80B / BV was washed down. The prototype was the "Snow Leopard" parade paint for the T-80BV, but along the way it was decided to repaint the stock version of the tank.

Read the instructions carefully when installing the mod! The mod was made exclusively for the version of the game from the My.com , i.e. Russian-language, and if you need to adapt it to other languages (for example, Steam), then contact the PM of the public. If you find any bugs or have suggestions, write them right here.

The author of the mod would like to thank Alexey Kitaev for high-quality photos, as well as one of the former super toasters for feedback and testing the mod.

If your question didn't get answered this time or you would like to ask more questions, feel free to submit them here!

    ---

    Reposting some questions from Discord:

    simolens:

    • What  vehicles besides the bvp afv contract tank are being added in the battlepath Store?

    Data-Zero:

    • Is it possible to set specific paint/camo as your favorite and have it as separate tab for fast equip/select?
    • Are there any new retrofits planned? As the likes of Improved drive and improved barrel lining. (Not as strong, like tier lower)
    • Any plans to add any more Hades vehicles into the list?
    • Is the massive camo loss when firing autocannons (eg BMP-3M) intended and if its so, any plans to visit it?

    Azdule:

    • Are there any ideas to try and add incentives to being in a battalion or a high ranking one?  While the shadow + parts of hades tanks are a nice addition to the grind of the game, outside of ranked matches, there is very little for a battalion to do together.  And once you have the hades tanks, there isn't an incentive to grind further for them.  Could there be something, and I use this term VERY loosely, like the old base, but for battalions to donate to so it gives them something back?  For example, if the members donated say 100m, it would 'print' out say a few more rearm kits for all members, or for 1 quadrillion, it gave access to something else - perhaps some heroic missions or something.
    • Would it be possible to get some over progression completions for the contract missions (akin to the raid missions) whereby, if you do the task so well, that you can 1 shot it?  for example, if you need to get 10x missions with 2k inf damage, that you get 1 mission with 20k inf damage (not exact numbers but for general ideas) Edit: or are they designed to be that way simply to try and keep player numbers up?
    • Are there any plans to remove the BS first roll on all of the crates that we get?  For example, the fire support, or nation boxes.  As a long term player, I'm not going to drop £2.50 on a day of premium or 500k credits.  If there was actually a chance of getting something decent on these boxes I might (strong maybe) tempted to roll on a few, but as it stands, there is 0 chance because all I see is trash.  Hell, even the visual shows the possible drops on that roll is trash.

    Pfeffer:

    • I am aware that there have been Line vehicles in the past that have been made premium (XM1, T-14 with 152mm) but has there ever been plans or discussions regarding the opposite?
For example taking the RDF LT (bad example but example nonetheless) and turning it into a line vehicle for a new or old dealer?
If not was there a specific reason **YOU** think it was never pursued such as annoying those that purchased or obtained it?

    Lettuce:

    • Question: How are the developers doing? Are they eating and sleeping well? What were some of the things that they had to go through during the coof and how did they manage to recover? Any anecdotes they or you want to share? I decided to ask these questions because its very easy for us players to forget that the developers behind a game are still human and the pressures we put on them might make or break them. I look forward to hearing about the other "heroes of armored warfare" :)

    Liebefrei:

    • When will the infantry be revised?
      - Likes to run a world
      - Likes to run meters away from hitting enemies even though enemies are in range
      - when will there be the possibility to tell the infantry exactly on which point (target circle, it should position itself, if it is close)
Working with the Infantery is a real pain in the ass.

  6. As described in the Q&A questions thread (https://armoredlabs.net/index.php?/topic/59785-qa-with-ss-post-your-questions-here/), here are the second round of answers provided by SS. A bit dry this time, mainly because the questions were pretty clear cut with no wiggle room for further discussions. Lets hope the next round of questions will be better.

If your question didn't get answered this time or you would like to ask more questions, feel free to submit them in the questions thread.

    1.       When is the fix for the MBTs not counting as heavy tanks coming?

I’ll need a full list of affected vehicles so that I can start investigations.

    2.       Will the Leopard 1 MEXAS and other more modern or unique variants of low-tier vehicles be introduced? If memory serves me right you were looking at putting AVGP into AW as well.

Each Battle Path has one or two low-Tier vehicles and there are various event vehicles also, so the chances of interesting low-Tier vehicles appearing are high. As for this Leopard 1 version – we currently have no plans for it.

    3.       Will the Public Test Server ever come back again for major changes, or it's deemed unnecessary by the developers.

It’s one of the long-term things we’d like to re-introduce. However, such a server would only appear for major changes and right now, we are more focusing on the Battle Path. As for the “bug-catching” event suggested – we have a long backlog of bugs we want to address. Discovering bugs isn’t the bottleneck of the process, actually addressing them is.

    4.       Regarding the usual "desynchronization" issue, i.e. game client fails to recognize a disconnection from server and does not reconnect automatically, is there anything that can be done about it other than players restarting the game manually? Even if affected players reconnect, it may be too late already in some cases as their vehicles may get destroyed during the downtime, which can be really frustrating.

Unfortunately, connection losses are a fact of internet life. We’re constantly monitoring the server’s health but right now, we don’t have anything to offer in this direction.

    5.       Are new players learning the game mechanics comfortably? The current training mission is far from adequate and doesn't translate well into actual gameplay because the player controls a god-mode T-72 against Tier 1 bots.

Good point. FTUE (First-Time User Experience) is one of the major weakspots of Armored Warfare that we have identified and are actively working on a new concept for the early Tiers. Might take a while though.

    6.       Is there a plan to return overhauled fuel tank modules?

    No.

    7.       Are there plans for other Story characters to become commanders as well?

Perhaps in the future, but not in the near one.

    8.       Are there any plans to optimize the game's performance? Or such thing wouldn't be possible due to CryEngine's limitations?

The game is fairly optimized already as it is. You’d have to be more specific.

    9.       Can we get the time it takes for a damaged wheel to be repaired on the HUD? ATM we only got a timer when they get destroyed.

This is not really a question I can answer. Perhaps in the future.

    10.   How is the Arjun performing so far? Will the Arjun receive buffs in the future, such as improving its reload or making its PELE ammo more useful?

At this point it’s fine and does not need any immediate buffs or nerfs.

    11.   If Ophelia is to be reworked, how would you rework her so that she becomes less broken in PvP?

That’s a tough question – generally speaking, we can’t nerf her to the ground, that wouldn’t be fair to the players who already obtained her. We can adjust the main skill somehow but we haven’t made any decisions yet.

    12.   What was the reasoning for placing the sniper mode camera at the bore of the gun? Have the developers considered moving the sniper mode camera to the appropriate gunner sight positions for the various tanks? Why/why not.

The reason is simple – comfortable and easy to understand gameplay. What good would it do to have half of your view obstructed by the body of the gun aside from uncomfortable gameplay? We could make all sorts of realism-based decisions such as have tracks repaired much longer, but would that make the game better? Not really.

    13.   Have the developers considered giving more top Tier tanks the AI aiming module - the one that shows where to shoot to hit a fast moving target/auto compensates for movement when having a target locked? It's a good quality of life module for casual players and i believe at least top Tier tanks should have it.

No, it’s a feature of a specific vehicle. We can discuss that; perhaps more than one vehicle can have it in the future.

    14.   What are the developer opinions on separate tuning of balance for PvE and PvP?

No. The vehicle characteristic setting system is complex as it is, having two of them would require years of work for little to no benefit. But more importantly, such questions cannot be retrofitted to games without a total game overhaul.

    15.   Will there be any possibility to have other garages selectable in the options, such as the ones from older seasons?

We’re looking into it but it’s a really low priority task, as you can imagine. The concept of having server-controlled season-appropriate garages is the preferred solution.

    16.   How do you feel about the recent trend of introducing progressively fictional vehicles into the game? First the Kornet-D1, now the Type 99B and ZTZ-20, will these precedencies of fictional vehicles lead to even more fake tanks in the future?

It’s a concern, but probably not as much as you think. The Kornet-D1 was a special case where we knew the proposal was realistic but nobody had seen it and the actual appearance would only come out in the form of a few photos or a video (can’t remember) after our model was finished. Oh well, not a great situation but rather than making the model from scratch, we prefer to introduce new models for you instead. As for the Chinese tanks, they were requested by our Chinese partner as we did want to introduce more Chinese-themed content. Both tanks should be treated as a single case. With that being said, we won’t introduce more fake tanks unless absolutely necessary.

  7. While the mod itself doesn't break any rules when viewed from a historical context, the context behind the mod will inevitably spark a lot of criticism not necessarily towards the mod, but to real-life current events.

I will leave this thread visible, but locked from comments until further notice. It is an appropriate compromise between allowing freedom of artistic expression and avoiding chaos.

  8. The PanzerSofa mods have an installer of sorts, but they are just self-extracting archives with some instructions included. I'm not a fan of them because it makes it harder to examine the contents of a mod before installing it, but I suppose they can make installation somewhat easier.

On merging mods, curated mod packs and collections isn't a bad idea at all as long as mod authors agree to have their work included. It will be up to the mod pack curators to keep up with mod updates though.

  9. I'm not aware of any mod manager specific to AW in development, the playerbase is probably too small to be worth the effort anyway. Something like JSGME might be useful, but IMO it will be a lot more complicated than just manually installing mods. It will solve a lot of mod conflict issues though, but luckily most mods so far don't conflict with each other.

If mod aggregation and centralized installation is needed, it would be easier for mod authors to provide version control and releases via GitHub or another repository service. But that is entirely up to the authors of course.

  10. Mod development is entirely based on the vision of their authors, it's literally a case of making what they want and not necessarily what others desire.

Arto's mod here isn't aimed at replicating real-life models, but more about what the vehicles could have plausibly looked like after field modifications and retrofits. XM1A3 being the only vehicle to receive the butt cage is likely an intentional decision to differentiate it better from the other Abrams variants.

If you don't agree with Arto's design decisions, you are always free to make further changes yourself too.

  11. Round 2 questions are closed! Here are the questions sent to SS:

    Quote
    1. When is the fix for the MBTs not counting as heavy tanks coming? its more and more of them that dont work in platoons (found the T-14 doesnt work now too).
    2. Will the leopard 1 MEXAS and other more modern or unique variants of low tier vehicles be introduced? If memory serves me right you were looking at putting a AVGP into AW.
    3. Will PTS ever come back again for major changes, or it's deem unnecessary by the devs? The last time we had a PTS was back in August/September 2020 for 0.33. Stuff like low tier rebalance or autocannon overhaul didn't get a PTS last year.
    4. What is the dev's opinion on reopening public testing and holding bug bounty events?
    5. Regarding the usual "desync" issue, i.e. game client fails to recognise a disconnection from server and does not reconnect automatically, is there anything that can be done about it other than players restarting the game manually? Even if affected players reconnect, it may be too late already in some cases as their vehicles may get destroyed during the downtime, which can be really frustrating.
    6. Are new players learning the game mechanics comfortably? The current training mission is far from adequate and doesn't translate well into actual gameplay, because the player controls a god-mode T-72 against tier 1 bots.
    7. The fuel tanks were taken out due to the stupidly easy method of just wiping them instantly and causing fires, however, is there an intention to readd them while utilizing a different destruction effect?  E.G. destroying fuel tanks for a Hybrid will allow it to actually have a chance to catch fire with engine damage, or for more volatile fuels the chance is exponentially higher? I ask this since there is still missions in game requiring fire and ammo fire damage/kills, and difficulty in ensuring one or the other is not ludicrous, but inconsistent.
    8. Is there plans for other Story characters to become commanders as well?  E.G. Grimm, Fedor, and whatnot?  Or is it still limited to a certain criteria such as them being actually referenced as driving the tank itself like Vadim?
    9. Are there any plans to optimise the game's performance? Or such thing wouldn't be possible due to CryEngine's limitations?
    10. Can we get the time it takes for a damaged wheel to be repaired on the hud? ATM we only got a timer when they get destroyed. Plus, we got only one timer for a single wheel, not when multiples are repairing, is there any way to have separate timers, or just get the timer for the wheel that will take the most time to repair, so we can have a visual display of when we will be able to move again?
    11. What about the 490 engine having 0% chance of being set on fire, but it get lit anyway from the LFP engine hitbox?
    12. How is the Arjun performing so far? Will the Arjun receive buffs in the future, such as improving its reload or making its PELE ammo more useful?
    13. If Ophelia is to be reworked, how would you rework her so that she becomes less broken in PvP?
    14. What was the reasoning for placing the sniper mode camera at the bore of the gun? Have the devs considered moving the sniper mode camera to the appropriate gunner sight positions for the various tanks? Why/why not.
    15. Have the devs considered giving more top tier tanks the AI aiming module - the one that shows where to shoot to hit a fast moving target/auto compensates for movement when having a target locked? It's a good QoL module for casual players and i believe at least top tier tanks should have it.
    16. What are the dev's opinions on separate tuning of ballance for pve and pvp - form what i'm aware, vr is already moderated for pve - what about bonuses from commanders, consumables and modules (BMS, Imaging sensors and crew related), can some values get boosts in pve while being left default for pvp?
    17. When a teammate is calling reloading (F8) we can't see how much time is left till their reload is complete. For example in WoT when a teammate is calling reloading it shows the amount of time left, can we have that in AW?
    18. Why has a pinging system (like that of valorant's or CoD's) not been implemented? Would the dev's like to?
    19. Will there be any possibility to have other garages selectable in the options, such as ones from older seasons?
    20. How do you feel about the recent trend of introducing progressively fictional vehicles into the game? First the Kornet-D1, now the Type 99B and ZTZ-20, will these precedencies of fictional vehicles lead to even more fakes in the future?

If I skipped over your question, feel free to repost them again so that they may be selected next round!

Round 3 of questions start now.
