1: Use premium time.

The 50% bonus to XP (and credits), speeds everything up substantially. XP is the raw statistic that is used to generate Commander XP, Crew XP and (Global) Reputation (which you can spend on Commanders - to level 10 and progression vehicles)

2: Use boosts.

I try to align my boosts to maximise whatever event is running at the same time. e.g. If it is a XP boost, I then use XP boosters to to gain the highest return possible.

3: Consumables

Low Tiers (1-4): They are not really needed, so save you money here
Mid Tiers (5-7): Use Med Kit, Spare Parts. If the vehicle has a crew loader you can boost RoF with an energy drink, or boost movement with synthetic oil, else fire extiguisher
High Tiers (8-10): As for Mid Tiers but replace Spare Parts with Surplus Parts crates.

4: Retrofits

MBT: Improved Gun Breech, Optics and Telescopic Lenses, if 4th-slot - Survivability Kit
TD and LT:Improved Gun Breech, Optics and Telescopic Lenses, if 4th-slot - Paint
Small TD and AFV: Improved Gun Breech, Optics and Telescopic Lenses, if 4th-slot - Paint
Arty: Improved Gun Breech, Advanced MRS, Ballistic Computer, if 4th slot - AI targeting

NOTE: For Tiers 7+ try to put the level II retrofits on your vehicles

Gun Breech improves RoF and therefore higher DPM, including missile reload speed
Optics and Telescopic Lenses improves view range.
Survivability Kit protects internal modules and Paint improves camo rating

Why view range Retrofits are important, is you are not trying to out spot your enemy, but you are trying to get more spots than your team, by out spotting your own team, thereby earning more spotting damage, and thereby more XP

5: Match Selection

Play PVE for the most consistent results, because you are more likely to win these matches as opposed to the other modes. Also try to play the highest difficulty available for your vehicles as this generally has the highest rewards for those you are grinding.

Play PVE standard if you do not have a vehicle capable of carrying (e.g. MBT or LT) or the vehicle is new to you and you are unfamilar with its initial capabilities.

Play PVE hardcore when you feel you are able to carry in the vehicle you have chosen, this minimises your frustration when team mates are not as good.

While SpecOps, GLOPS, and PVP are interesting modes, you should play these mainly when your vehicle is fully upgraded and equipped with level 4 crews (2 skills) as the results are less consistent and team ability has a major impact on the outcomes.

SpecOps Hardcore should really be played in platoons, unless you are especially good and carry a whole mission

SpecOps Extreme should be played in platoons and preferrably in comms (Discord, Teamspeak, etc.), they are very hard to carry with an uncoordinated team

6: Vehicle Grinding

Try to play every line in a levelling way. What I mean is don't get a tier 3 until you have every tier 2, don't get a tier 4 until you have every tier 3 and so on. This allows you to understand how every class plays and how you may need to face them as the enemy. Playing just one class limits your vehicle knowledge and thereby not be able to counter their strengths or exploit their weaknesses. While this may slow your grind, you also develop your other skills, like map knowledge, situational awareness, game mechanics (and bugs ). In addition, you can make the game more interesting by challenging yourself. I have every in-game vehicle renowned

7: Crew Grinding

Once you have ground out your vehicles, you may like to grind your crews to at least level 4 or 5 to give them extra boost. All my vehicles have Level 5 crews, which gives them a significant boost

8: Commander Grinding

While you may be tempted to place specialist commanders in certain vehicles, I place the same commander in every vehicle, for every commander I am grinding, this way I get the 2x 1st win XP bonus to boost the commander XP and therefore my Commander levelling is 2x faster. I then swap them out once they have reached their limit and then select another. I now have 22 "Colonel" Level 15 commanders plus two premium Commanders.

If you have a little bit of Gold, I'd recommend getting the Premium Commanders.

Use this site to test various commander skill combinations: http://csb-hype.5v.pl/

These are my preferred commanders;

Maximillion Konig or Fyodor Sokolov for grinding new vehicles or crews

Alexandr Cortez for maximum damage and gun protection

Douglas O'Reilly for most MBTs

Juan Carlos Miramon for most LTs

Joshua Seagrove, Andrey Zaitsev or Ioannis Sana for most TDs

Erin O'Connell for scouting light AFVs

Sabrina Washington for most other AFVs, especially those with PELE rounds

I did try specialising commanders per nation, but felt this reduced the perfomance of vehicles. Nevertheless here is mine

Victor for Russian MBTs, Phillip for German MBTs, Kathryn for British MBTs, Rachel for Chinese MBTs, Giya for Israeli, Anthony Diaz or Juan Carlos of American MBTs and Vincent for French MBTs

9: Battle-Hardening or Premium Vehicles

I'd recommended battle-hardening your progression  Tier 9 & 10 vehicles over purchasing Premium vehicles.

However, if you are keen on buying premium vehicles these are my recommendations per tier.

Tier 8: M-95 Degman, T-72B3, Marder II or AMX-10RC
Tier 7: Challenger 1, Merkava IID, Object 187, T-80U and Stingray 2 (I like the Wiesel HOT as well)

Tier 6 and lower are not really recommended due to their lower earnings potential, and the vehicle ownership bonus is significantly less.

NOTE: Tier 9 and 10 Premium vehicles are not readily available, but do make significant income and are well worth trying to get for that reason alone

10: Vehicle Ownership

Try to retain as many vehicles as possible especially the higher tiers as you get significant bonuses is the XP you earn thereby speeding your grind significantly.

Bonus Tip 1: Maximise your Credits or XP Earning

If playing for XP,  play your highest tiers.  If playing for credits, play your Premium or battle-hardened

As an aside, my gaming session usually starts with playing the most difficult, i.e. T9/10s in hardcore (or SpecOps Insane, if I can get in a full platoon)

However, if you do not have tier 9 or 10 or are still grinding tanks, I still recommend playing your highest difficulty as this is the best way to maximise your credits and XP as I said in Tip 5 above.

Bonus Tip 2: Damage/Kill tanks you are not spotting.

This way you can maximise your spotting damage as much as possible. This builds on tip no.4 about having the two optics retrofits regarding out-spotting your team mates, to maximise spotting damage. Why reduce your own spotting damage by shooting at tanks you are spotting yourself. You can tell what tanks you are spotting by looking at the white 'eye' symbol above the tanks.

9: Battle-Hardening or Premium Vehicles

I'd recommended battle-hardening your progression higher tier vehicles over purchasing Premium vehicles.

However, if you are keen on buying premium vehicles these are my recommendations per tier.

Tier 8: T-72B3, Marder II or AMX-10RC
Tier 7: Challenger 1, Merkava IID, Object 187, T-80U and Stingray 2 (I like the Wiesel HOT as well)

NOTE: Tier 9 and 10 Premium vehicles are not readily available.

10: Vehicle Ownership

Try to retain as many vehicles as possible especially the higher tiers as you get significant bonuses is the XP you earn thereby speeding your grind significantly.

Bonus Tip 1: Maximise your Credits or XP Earning Spreadsheet

The order column on the left is the order you want to play your vehicles for credits
The order column on the right is the order you want to play your vehicles for XP, which helps with Commander XP, Crew XP and (Global) Reputation
The optimum column in the middle is a combination of the two.
Recommendation: If there is a credit bonus, play for credits order. If there is a XP (or Commander XP or Crew XP or Reputation) Bonus, play for XP order.

The figures listed are assuming you play the highest difficulty for the vehicle. (Also I have not adjusted the figures to remove Tier 5 from the Hardcore difficulty.)

Note: If you do not have the vehicle tier, then pick the next one down the list and so on.

Bonus Tip 2: New Technique for playing PVE when you have all the tanks

I currently have all the tanks, and also tons of credits. What I do want is lots of (Global) reputation.

Using the current mode setup and poor rewards for playing against higher tiers, I have decided that we can play a different way. Because you used to be rewarded for playing against higher tiers by the battle-tier multiplier. Now all you need to be playing is the highest tier to be get the most XP.

What you do is play your tier 9 and 10s in Hardcore mode and your tier 7 and 8 in Challenging, (You could probably also play your tier 5 and 6 in easy). What this means is you are mostly top tier and also most likely to a secondary target for the AI. The AI algorithm, I have worked out after 15,000+ PVE games is that it first shoots at spotted low tiers and then spotted low HP targets. So when you are playing top tiers you are less likely to get hit, you get more kills and damage, and thereby higher XP per match.

All this new strategy costs is 15% XP bonus versus 30% bonus in hardcore. However, I can supplement this loss by the following;

~30% extra XP for owning lots of vehicles
50% extra XP for playing Premium time
20% extra XP for playing Premium and Battle-hardened vehicles
… then add various boosts and insignias that I received from time to time

So while I do sacrifice a significant 50% credits income, the XP loss is less so. What this means is I also increase the variety of maps I can play on too, so the game does not get too stale.

Meanwhile, as you are top tier, you can also carry easier and help the lower tiers in your team get more wins and speeding their grinds.

As an aside, my gaming session usually starts with playing the most difficult, i.e. T9/10s in hardcore (or SpecOps Insane, if I can get in a full platoon) and then my T7/8 in challenging (or SpecOps) as I get more fatigued. I do then get all the 2x (or higher when there is an event) bonus for first win which doubles your XP.

However, if you do not have tier 9 or 10 or are still grinding tanks, I still recommend playing your highest difficulty as this is the best way to maximise your credits and XP as I said in Tip 5 above.

Bonus Tip 3: Damage/Kill tanks you are not spotting.
